Knightmotive is a chess course, an analysis board and a practice opponent that run in your browser. This page says plainly what is stored and who else your browser talks to.
What we store
Guest mode keeps learning data on your device. Optional account saving is available only when the website owner connects the online database. We do not use advertising or analytics.
Your browser keeps a local copy of learning progress and settings:
- your name as you typed it, your chosen level and your settings;
- which lessons you have completed, the exercises to review, and your scores in the master games;
- the games you played against the coach, with the coach’s review of each.
Guest progress does not follow you to another device. Clearing browser site data removes local copies and any changes still waiting to sync. Settings lets you download or import a progress backup. Keep backup files private; they include learning activity, notes and game history.
Optional accounts and online saving
When online saving is connected, signing in sends your email and password to Supabase authentication. Supabase manages authentication; the website does not store your password. Your browser stores session tokens to keep you signed in. Supabase also stores your chosen learning profile, exercise and lesson progress, stopping point, revision records, notes, practice checklists and saved games with their analysis. Those records are linked to your authenticated account. Access rules restrict each learner to their own progress.
Signing out returns to the separate guest record. On a shared device, sign out before another learner uses it. You can sign out offline. Changes waiting to sync remain in that account’s local cache and resume when the same account signs in again. Clearing browser data before they sync removes those pending changes. Settings’ “Delete all saved data” deletes the signed-in account’s online progress and Knightmotive data cached in this browser. It requires a connection when signed in and does not delete the authentication account itself. Old offline saves cannot restore deleted progress. Guest deletion clears this browser only.
Other services your browser contacts
To work, the site loads some files from other companies. They receive your IP address and browser details, as any website does when you visit it. The file-delivery services below do not receive your learning records. If you sign in to a connected account, your account and progress data are sent to Supabase as described above.
| Service | What it provides |
|---|---|
| Supabase (when accounts are connected) | Authentication and private online progress storage. Receives account details and learning records when you use an account. |
| Netlify | Hosts this website. Like every web host, it keeps short-term access logs. |
| unpkg, jsDelivr, cdnjs | Deliver the Stockfish chess engine, which then runs on your device. |
| Google Fonts | Delivers the Inter typeface. |
Voice
The trainer’s voice uses your browser’s built-in speech. In some browsers the voice is produced by the browser maker’s online service, which means the text being read is sent to that service. If you use the microphone button to ask a question, your browser’s speech recognition handles the audio; in Chrome that is processed by Google. Both features are optional and can be switched off in the header.
Children
Children can use guest lessons without an email or account. The optional name can be a nickname. A parent or guardian should manage any account used by a child and supervise sharing of information in notes. The account reminder does not itself verify parental consent. Online account collection and the website’s contact arrangements must be reviewed before accounts are launched publicly.
Payments
The site takes no payments today. If paid plans are introduced, the payment provider, data collected and applicable policies will be explained before payments are enabled.
